Frequently Asked Questions
What is hydroseeding?
Hydroseeding is a planting process that sprays a mixture of seed, mulch, fertilizer, tackifier, and water onto prepared soil. It's faster and more cost-effective than sod, provides better germination rates than hand-seeding, and is ideal for large areas, slopes, and new construction sites.
How long does it take for hydroseeding to grow?
You'll typically see initial germination within 7-14 days, depending on weather and soil conditions. A full, established lawn usually develops within 4-6 weeks. Interior BC's warm summers and adequate irrigation produce excellent results.
Is hydroseeding better than sod?
Hydroseeding is significantly more cost-effective than sod for large areas — typically 60-80% less expensive. It also allows for custom seed blends suited to your specific soil and climate conditions. Sod offers instant results but at a much higher price point.
Can you hydroseed in any season?
The ideal hydroseeding season in Interior BC runs from late spring through early fall. We typically recommend seeding from May through September for optimal germination. Fall seeding is possible but requires earlier scheduling to establish before frost.
